Gravetye Manor was the home of the most influential gardeners of the 19th and 20th century. Gravetye Manor in West Sussex was created by rebellious Edwardian innovator and garden writer, William Robinson. At Gravetye Manor there is just such a pergola, on the boundary between the formal garden and the orchard. Robinson was a prolific garden writer best known for his views promoting a more natural form of gardening.
